Tihar (also known as Deepawali or Diwali) is one of the most important and grandest festivals of Nepal, celebrated just after Dashain. Known as the Festival of Lights, Tihar spans five days and honors various animals, deities, and the sacred bond between brothers and sisters.
During Tihar, homes are illuminated with diyas (oil lamps), colorful rangoli patterns decorate doorways, and the air fills with the warmth of community celebrations. The festival begins by worshipping crows, followed by dogs, cows, oxen, and culminates in the beautiful Bhai Tika ceremony.
Deusi and Bhailo are traditional songs sung during Tihar — Deusi is sung by boys while Bhailo is sung by girls. Groups visit neighborhood homes, singing, dancing, and blessing households in exchange for sel roti, fruits, and money.
Wishing Happy Tihar and Deepawali to all Nepalese ChatSansarians!!! May Goddess Laxmi bless you with prosperity and happiness!
Deusi (sung by boys) and Bhailo (sung by girls) are traditional folk songs performed door-to-door during Tihar. Groups gather with musical instruments, sing blessings for prosperity, and receive offerings like sel roti, sweets, and monetary gifts from households. It's a beautiful expression of community bonding and cultural heritage.
